Gender and Sexual Minorities
In various contexts, little to no information is available regarding gender and sexual minority communities including sex workers, circumcised girls, homosexuals, bisexuals, transsexuals, intersex individuals, and persons with unusual gender-personalities, transvestites. Therefore these groups have been excluded from national health plans, policies, research/interventions and the provision of adapted services which can meet their needs. The design of GRAG’s initiatives and programs under this issue takes into account factors such as social rejection, literacy and socio-economic status, and the impact of gender norms. Additionally other issues including the perception and identity these communities might place on themselves and others as well.
Our activities focus on:
- Generate information/database on gender and sexual minority communities.
- Assess the needs of gender and sexual minority communities in our priority countries
- Support competent services for the specialized needs of gender and sexual minorities
- Promote cooperation and understanding between communities
- Social promotion, international advocacy, research, publishing, sensitization, and training
